A Top-Level Domain (or TLD) is the suffix of the domain following the last dot. This is considered the top-level domain as it is the most generic.
The most common TLD is .com. This ending is used all over the world, although this was originally only used by US American companies.
Among the top-level domains, there are two types:

| Country-specific (ccTLD) | .co.uk, .us, .mx | Restricted to a two-letter extension |
| Generic (gTLD)
